Monte Washburn, Heartland ITS

Heartland ITS President and CEO Monte Washburn is a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has been an evangelist for the Project/Program Management Office (Strategic Portfolio Management) with experience that began in the military during the 1980’s. Monte has served as the technical architect for enterprise design and has implemented organization transformations required to meet the demands on information technology resources as organizations race to meet the increasingly fast rate of change. He has continued to work in project based environments developing or participating in the development of Information Technology plans throughout his career, spanning companies such as the United States Army, Deloitte & Touche’, PEPSICO, Cargill’s EXCEL Corp, Central Illinois Light Company (Now AES/CILCO), and the Illinois State Board of Education. He holds an MS in Computer Science from Columbia Pacific University, an EdM in Human Services & Human Resource Education from Boston University and a BS in Computer Science from Park College.

In the world of higher education, Monte has taught Organizational Design, Research & Development, Strategic Planning, and Computer Science courses for masters programs at several prominent universities. In 2001, he led an effort with the Illinois Board of Education to create a 5 Year Strategic Plan for that organization’s Information Technology Center.

Monte will cover the Risk Management Concept as presented in the PMBOK 2000. This is the area with the most significant changes from the PMBOK published in 1996.
