Oracle 11i Upgrade Project
Dennis Claussen
Flint Hills Resources, LP
Dennis Claussen has been involved in project delivery at Koch Industries, Inc. for twelve years and currently works in a subsidiary named Flint Hills Resources (FHR). Dennis has project managed several projects that have invested over one million dollars of I.T. labor. His experience spans both custom-built applications as well as commercial packages. Dennis' strengths include the ability to break complex projects (or programs) into manageable sub-projects and leveraged sub-teams. Then orchestrating the multiple focused sub-project teams towards the collective end result. This approach can enable a faster, less costly and/or higher quality implementation.
In a recent example of this approach, an FHR project team guided by Dennis delivered a very large upgrade to its Oracle Financials package application to version 11i in less time and less cost than most other IT shops have been able to achieve. An Oracle Application User Group (OAUG) survey of 114 similar 11i upgrade projects suggests an upgrade spend between $2MM-4MM over 8-12 months. FHR delivered this upgrade for under $1.5M and less than 7 months, plus met or exceeded the expectations on the cutover quality.
Dennis will share a few key points from this effort and highlight techniques, team structure, and project management tips you can apply to your next complex project.
