Managing Projects for Non-Profits
Nick Mork
President and CEO
Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters
Nick Mork leads the largest of the nearly 500 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America organizations. Prior to being selected to lead Kansas BBBS, he served thirty years as Executive Director of BBBS of Sedgwick County in Wichita, KS. He has been a leader in the effort to expand Big Brothers Big Sisters services to rural and other underserved areas of the state. In addition, Nick consults nationally and internationally in the area of non-profit marketing and management and is a faculty member of the Center for Management Development at Wichita State University.
Headquartered in Wichita, Nick oversees an annual budget of $6 million and a staff of 160 serving 4,800 youth with one-to-one mentors. The statewide agency has completed a $7.2 capital campaign which will provide the facilities, technology and infrastructure to grow to 20,000 youth/adult matches by 2010. Nick has also been the chief architect of "Bowl For Kids Sake" which combines special event and traditional annual fund strategies to generate more than $1.5 million in Kansas and $25 million nationally.
Nick has held numerous national and regional leadership positions in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, including President of the National CEOs Association. In 1998, he received that group's highest honor, The Skip Walsh Award, for distinguished service to Big Brothers Big Sisters professionals. Nick received the State Attorney General's 1996 Commitment to Children's Service Award.
In 1997 he was selected to Wichita's delegation to The Presidents' Summit for America's Future, the precursor to America's Promise. He now serves on the Steering Committee of Wichita's Promise, the local follow up effort.
