Negotiation Techniques for Project Managers
Lee Towe, PMP
President
Innovators International, Inc.

Project managers negotiate a lot during the course of a project. Business managers need persuading to make team members available. People with the purse strings may need convincing that funds are necessary. Even team members sometimes need to be sold on the merits of the project, not to mention the negotiating that goes on with suppliers, the sponsor and other project managers.

Participants in this entertaining session negotiate for funds associated with a popular new product called Hotspots. Several project managers and other key people compete in a setting that brings out natural negotiation tendencies. During the debriefing period, several negotiation strategies are discussed.

Lee Towe is President of Innovators International, Inc., a Charter Registered Education Provider with PMI. He spends most of his time facilitating training workshops and providing consulting services in the area of project management. Lee served on the leadership team for PMI's Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® 3rd Edition and was primary author of the Human Resources area. Lee has managed projects for 25 years and trained others for more than 15 years. His SeminarsWorld presentations have earned high ratings (for example, his presenter rating was 4.9 out of 5 at MegaSeminarsWorld 2004) and his 2001 PMI Congress session score was among the highest that year. He is the author of two books: Why Didn't I Think of That? and Strategic Planning Handbook.
