April 2005 NEWSLETTER
As previously announced, Barry Dougherty, our Vice President of Programs, has moved out of the area. Chapter members interested in this position should contact a board member.
We are going to start an Upcoming Events area of the website to list learning opportunities available through nearby chapters. For starters, the Red Earth Chapter of the Oklahoma City area, is sponsoring a spring symposium on April 30th. Details are available on their website: http://www.redearthpmi.org/symposium. The day is worth 6 PDUs.
We will be hosting a PMP Prep class again this fall, Monday and Tuesday, October 17 & 18. We are bringing back Lee Towe again to provide a concentrated preparation format that is guaranteed to have you pass the test. Southwestern College has agreed to let us use their facility on South Rock Road again.
Note below that we are meeting at a new facility with different dinner arrangements.

Mark Brzon and Jerell Smith
Boeing Integrated Defense Systems
Mark Brzon is a Boeing Manager and leads the Lean Enterprise, Affordability, Life Cycle Cost and Process Management for the 767 Tanker/Transport Program at Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in Wichita, Kansas.
Mark recently helped write the Malcolm Baldrige application for Boeing IDS-Airlift and Tankers, of which was a finalist for the Malcolm Baldrige award. He has been actively involved in the Kansas Award for Excellence; State level of the Malcolm Baldrige. One of his teams will(was) be honored in Anaheim, California on April 8th for one of Boeing's highest honors for Process Improvements.
Mark has been actively involved in leading process improvements throughout Boeing's Value Chain for most of his 19 year career.
Jerell Smith is a Lean Enterprise project leader for the 767 Tanker/Transport Program at Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in Wichita, Kansas. His duties include involvement through the entire value stream from customer requirements to post-delivery support.
As co-developer of the Boeing Production System implementation strategy and co-founder of the BPS Promotion office, Jerell has been actively involved in leading production system transformation within Boeing for ten years. The Boeing Production System draws on the principles and practices of the Toyota Production System and other successful Just-In-Time/Lean Manufacturing applications to create a system tailored to the Boeing culture and business demands.
Jerell has studied and worked with direct students of Taiichi Ohno of Toyota, studied process and distribution kaizen in Japan, and serves as a consultant to other Boeing facilities and external suppliers. He has lead the transformation and re-design of several production lines, and their associated support systems. His focus on system and application of the principles and practices to non-production environments has included significant work in engineering and new product development, and procurement. The application of lean principles in the engineering and office environments at Boeing Wichita has been used as a model for other Boeing sites.
Jerell has been a featured speaker at conferences such as the International Conference of Production Research of the Americas, and Lean Aerospace Initiative Plenary Conferences.
