Scope Creep: Success Oriented Strategies for Managing Shifting Project Requirements
Lori Parker
Regional Director
Buchanan Associates

One of the fundamental rules of project management is that all projects will undergo changes of some type, regardless of the projects size, cost or complexity. This is as reliable (in its own way) as gravity, and should be dealt with in the same way: Plan for it or pay the price. Success in this area mainly consists of ensuring that all parties (Project Management team, customer(s) and project delivery team(s)) have clearly defined expectations and understand the impact of changes introduced by their respective areas.

To put it simply: If you understand fully what a change is going to cost you, in terms of cost, quality or time... then you can make an intelligent decision about whether you are prepared to assume that cost. This is true regardless of your actual role within the context of the project. ("Success Oriented" = "No Surprises")

Sounds simple, right? Actually it is.... and we'll show you how.

Lori Parker has earned an MHR in Organizational Development focused in Change Management from Oklahoma University. She began her career as a Process Consultant in the Telecommunications industry in Tulsa, OK. After moving to Wichita, Lori joined Buchanan Associates with a focus on process improvements within the Enterprise Application Management arena. Lori is currently serving as a Regional Director with Buchanan Associates for the Wichita Region, as well as actively managing various customer projects and project teams.
